What about these preps ....... ?
engine oil by the case, air and oil filters, spark plugs, tires, brake shoes
if the big 3 go under, so might all parts suppliers including foreign does anybody have first aid preps? how about a bicycle? |

Hmmmm... interesting. Perhaps I could pull a "Black Friday at WalMart" on the parts department at work! :rofl: Engine oil will definitly be most important. Tires would be expensive to stock up on. Besides, if the big three go under, I won't be going to work. Won't be driving much!

I've got engine oil, oil filters, wipers, tire repair kits (no extra tires beyond my usual spare), belts, and such, but I could use more. Mostly I'm accumulating spare parts for my old Ford F150. (My other truck is a later model GM, and it's pointless to buy spare parts for it. It's been a lemon from day one, and we can barely keep it running now.)
I have lots of first aid preps, including items that go above and beyond the average first aid "kit." I also have a regular bike and a folding bike. |

plenty of bikes and parts never enough first aid gear
i alway try to use the same engine for many different jobs so it is easy to stock or rat spare parts if need be like today i busted a muffler from the backup generator which i stole from the rototiller until i can get a replacement. also seem to never have enough motor oil |

I'm in the opposite position with engine oil - I go to car shows, and they are always selling the brand I use by the 25 gallon drum. So I'm well stocked up on that. And have plenty of petrol and 2-stroke oil at my place. At the minute over here so many people are converting their heating from oil to natural gas, that people will pay you to take away their old oil tank. A quick brush with bitumen and it'll last for years.

I bike everywhere, and in fact I store a bike in my backseat (I don't care for multiple passengers). One of my fears is being grid-locked in traffic, parking-lot style. I am pretty agile off-roading on a bike and I am getting pretty good at choosing routes that are annoying to try and follow.
That being said, a top speed of 15-30 MPH and no protection isn't impressing anyone. But bikes are awesome, can go between cars, can go around roadblocks, avoid road spikes, can offroad with no damage, can be carried or thrown over a fence, never run out of gas, are easy to hide and come back for later, and frankly, you're considered less of a threat on a bike, if you adopt a certain posture. When you get really good, you'll understand that it is the key to urban mobility. Literally nothing except a very determined man can stop you. There's nary a terrain around that can stop you. Big contrast coming from a car, that can only move in prescribed patterns. Curbs, grass, dirt, glass, spikes, walls up to 8 feet or so . . . .it is true freedom. My car is my boat, my bike is my dingy. Better than nothing. |
